AREAS OF LITURGY

The area of Liturgy supports and coordinates the many liturgical ministries, which help in our parish community's worship and prayer. Preparing the liturgical seasons and ministries is the core of our work. Listed below are the many ministries which people may choose to aid the area of liturgy.

Liturgical Commission
The Liturgical Commission prepares the Sunday and special liturgies with the Director of Music and Liturgy and the priests. They coordinate and train the many liturgical ministries so our liturgy will be liturgically correct, Spirit filled and inviting. Members will be trained in an understanding of Catholic liturgical principles.

Altar Server
This ministry is made up of youth from grades 6th, 7th, 8th and grades above. They assist the priest during masses and special liturgies. Volunteers serve about twice a month. Training will be provided.

Arts & Environment
The Arts and Environment Ministry works closely with the Liturgy Commission to create a meaningful Spirit filled liturgy and to create a prayerful environment through the use of banners, flowers, visual pieces, and decorations.

Baptismal Coordinator
We have over 300 baptisms in our parish each year. On the third Sunday of each month we have a special Baptismal Mass at 2:30 PM. We need coordinators to welcome the families and escort them to their seats for this mass.

Eucharistic Minister
Those parishioners who have a strong devotion to the Eucharist may ask to be appointed to distribute the Eucharist to their brothers and sisters. The appointment is for a three year period and the commitment is to serve at mass one or more times per month. You may also be asked to serve on holy days and holiday masses. Training involves one session of practical training and two sessions of spiritual enrichment .

Greeter
The Greeters are responsible for welcoming the members of our faith community to the Saturday and Sunday masses. The only requirement for this ministry is a cheerful smile and a friendly welcome.

Lector
The Lector proclaims the message of the scripture by reading of the text, in such a way to allow the message of God's word to enliven each of us. Lectors will be expected to review and prepare their scripture reading, serve at one mass per month, and participate in one lector workshop a year.

Liturgy of the Word for Children
Volunteers present the weekly readings for children, Kindergarten through 3rd grade, during our 4:30 PM Saturday Mass. We help them to understand the gospel message at their level. Volunteers rotate on one Saturday every 6-7 weeks. They are with the children approximately 20 minutes during the mass.

Liturgical Writer
Liturgical Writers prepare the prayers of the penitential rite and the prayer of the faithful for all weekend liturgies and holy days. People who enjoy reading God's word, and writing, are invited to participate.

Marthas
These Ministers come on a scheduled basis to clean the liturgical vessels and dust and clean the sacristies. They also may launder the linens used at weekly mass on a monthly schedule.

Music Ministry
This ministry includes a variety of groups to suit different talents and availabilities:

Joyful Noises (a choir for K-2 children), meets weekly from October to May

Heavenly Voices is for children in grades 3-6 and meets weekly from September to May

Youth Choir (Grades 6-12), meets weekly from September to May. They sing at the Youth Masses and an occasional Sunday Mass

Parish Orchestra features band and orchestral instrumentalists of all ages who rehearse at Noon on Saturdays from September to May. They play at various Masses throughout the year, particularly on such occasions as Christmas, Easter and at special parish events.

Adult Choir (a Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass) choir which rehearses weekly and sings at 9:30 AM Sunday Mass.

Resurrection Choir meets monthly and sings at Parish Funerals.

Small Ensembles These are various small groups which sing at 5:15 PM, 7:30 and 11:30 AM Sunday Masses and other events as needed.

Ministry of Cantor (individuals who lead the Assembly's song and proclaim the sung scripture)

Instrumentalists (wide variety of instrumentalists who may or may not be part of a particular group who rehearse periodically as needed).

Sacristan
The Sacristan sets out the gifts (bread & wine) and the cups, bowls, and other items for the mass. A different person does this for each weekend mass.

Usher
Ushers are called on to provide various services prior to, during, and after the celebration of the liturgy. These services ensure the comfort and safety of the assembly and also assist in the orderly execution of the liturgical activities. Ushers serve at the mass of their preference.

Visitation Ministry
Visitation ministers visit our sick and homebound. In this way the Church brings the love and care of the community to those unable to celebrate with us. Scheduling is personalized and is worked out between the Visitation Minister and the person. New volunteers are always welcome.

Wedding Coordinator
This ministry conducts the wedding rehearsal, and is present for the wedding itself to help the families with details. The Wedding Coordinators may pick the dates of weddings they wish to serve.
