November 8, 2007

Can you believe November is here? Where is the time going? Hopefully, you all enjoyed the Halloween Fun Fair. What a wonderful, fun event. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make it a success. 8th grade, your Haunted House was great. Setup and cleanup were perfect. 7th grade, many of you worked the games in the gym. You represented us so well!

Trivia Night is coming up on Saturday, November 10th. It is a fun, fun evening. Remember, you do not need talent. Just come for socializing and fun. Questions? Call Rick Orabutt or the school office. Funds from this evening are used to keep tuition affordable for all. Where else could you have fun AND raise money for childrens education?

You may have noticed that I removed a book from the Book Fair list. The Golden Compass Trilogy was written by an admitted atheist. All reports that I have read state that in the third book the heroine attempts to kill God. A movie of this story will soon be released. I have chosen to remove the book from our sale due to the topics handled. I have not read the book myself but did not want to take a chance that it was inappropriate. I leave it to individual parent decision.

Saint Margaret Mary Religious Education has informed me that sacramental dates are as follows:

First Reconciliation:     1/29/08, 1/30/08, 1/31/08
First Communion:       5/03/08, 5/17/08 At both the 10a.m. and 12 p.m. Masses

Just a reminder that a Study Hall is available to students in third through eighth grade on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:00 to 8:30 in the Science Lab. It is a silent study hall. Students must sign in and sign out. They may not leave before 8:30 once they arrive.

Our students were wonderful during Red Ribbon Week. Now, we need to keep up the momentum. When you catch your child making a good decision as him, How does that make you feel inside?  As children mature they will realize the wonderful self-pride that comes from doing the right thing. Monetary or tangible rewards are not always necessary.

As you will note, we now have Saint Margaret Mary School Spirit Wear available. There are a variety of items available. We were able to have a wide price range. I did not want spirit wear to become a status symbol but, rather, a symbol of spirit and pride in our community. It was our aim in choosing items to make them as affordable as possible.

The first Junior High dance is coming up on November 16th. As always, we encourage the DJ to provide a variety of appropriate music that can involve all students present. I will be speaking to all Junior High school students regarding appropriate dress. As usual, if a student is dressed inappropriately, parents will be asked to pick him/her up.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving. We are very thankful here at the school for the many, many volunteers that give of their time and talent to make this a wonderful school.

Halloween Fun Fair
The Halloween Fun Fair is one of the highlights of the year.  The children had such a great time!  Another great job by the 8th grade designing the Haunted House.  Hope you went through with a buddy, it was scary!  Thank you to all the volunteers who manned the games all night long.  The decorations were fantastic!  The judges had a very hard time picking the winners of the pumpkin contest.  There were many fun and unusual pumpkins this year.  Congratulations to all the winners.

Market Day
Thanks to everyone who ordered Market Day in October.  Thanks to you we were able to earn $400 in free books for our school from Scholastic Company through Market Day.

We will earn extra profit in November for every pie sold and in December for each box of cookie dough sold. Are you baking Christmas cookies this year?  Here is the perfect way to get two things done at once.

Our profits so far this year are:

Sept     $525.82
Oct     $547.28

So far this year we have raised $1073.10 to help support all the activities sponsored by Home and School.

The deadline to place an order for December is the 10th by 12:00 noon.  If you miss this deadline and would still like to order please call Carla Hilbert before 9:00 pm and she will place the order for you.  Her number is: 847-854-1460
