Dear St. Margaret Mary Parish Community and Friends:
 
Thanks to your support, volunteerism, prayers and continued generosity, the 2011 Shamrock Shave was an overwhelming success!  We had over 500 people in attendance, served over 450 meals at the Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner, and had 42 men, women and children shave their heads for the needy in the community and cancer research raising over $27,000 to date for the St. Vincent DePaul Society and Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation.
 
An event like the Shamrock Shave would not be possible without the support of many generous and giving people, and I would like to take a moment to personally thank some of them for their tremendous commitment to the 2011 Shamrock Shave.  To Fr. Mike Tierney, who from the beginning of this event three years ago until today, has been its biggest supporter and advocat….and who knew he could dance the jig?; to Fr. Darek and Fr. .Edward who helped spread the word and continuously invited the entire parish community to participate; to Mrs. Snyder, Mrs. Johnson and the entire St. Margaret Mary School staff, for welcoming the event into the school cafeteria and gymnasium and once again embracing the Shave as a parish wide event; to Clare Titus for helping the committee organize and coordinate the logistics of the event.

Special thanks to the 2011 Shamrock Shave Committee: Bob Armstrong, Jonna Burck, Chris and Cindy Cimaglio, Theresa Gibron, Steve Hilbert, Lisa O’Hare, Mitch Kaminski, Shannon Kaminski, Andre Manaois, Ralph Melgosa, Ken “Chef” Prigge and John Schneider, for their leadership, hard work and planning over the last five months; to Adam Smith for once gain emceeing and bringing style and energy to the event; to all of our sponsors including the Knights of Columbus #11091 and parishioners, Mike Milanovich and Quantum Foods, Mike Carlson and Algonquin Bank and Trust,  Fred Cimaglio and the Team at Total Marketing Associates, John Schneider and the Moxie Group, and Jackie Cassina and Bella Vita Salon for making the event possible by helping subsidize the dinner, raffles and entire event.

We sincerely appreciate all the volunteers from St. Vincent DePaul, St. Margaret Mary Youth Ministry, Knights of Columbus Council #11091, the Notre Dame Club of McHenry County,  Cub Scout Pack 152, and Boy Scout Troop 152 who generously helped with cooking and serving the dinner and drinks, set up, working the door, clearing the stage, selling raffle tickets, running the kid’s corner, take down and much, much more; to all of our entertainers, Dundee Scottish Pipe Band, Summers Dance Crew, Mayer School of Irish Dance and Chicagoland’s finest Irish band, Kingsfold led by our very own Feargal and Breda King, for entertaining the crowd and “rocking the house;”  to all the stylists for coming out and donating their time and talent on a Saturday night to help raise money for some worthwhile causes, to all the shavees, who raised money and agreed to be shorn in solidarity with those in need and those with cancer; for all those who pledged the shavees and donated money to the event; and most importantly to the entire St. Margaret Mary parish community, for coming out and full force and supporting this event for the last three years.   

The Shamrock Shave has not only become a successful fundraiser for some important charities, it is also a testament to the stewardship and giving nature of our parish community and the unending desire of our parishioners to do God’s work by serving others.

THANKS TO ALL OF YOU WHO MADE THE SECOND ANNUAL ST. MARGARET MARY SHAMROCK SHAVE SUCH A RESOUNDING SUCCESS!

Thanks to all of you for your efforts in making the Second Annual Shamrock Shave an incredibly successful fundraising event for our parish community and for cancer research.

Thanks to your efforts, we collectively raised over $33,500 for the needy in our community (St. Vincent DePaul Society) and cancer research (Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation). We also had 48 men, women and children shaves, an estimated 400 adults and children in attendance, and served over 300 Irish dinners (combined adult and children).

It was a few years ago that the idea of the Shamrock Shave was born in the second floor bar at Emmett's Tavern in Dundee (thanks to Kevin Fitzgerald)... and it became a reality as a result of Fr. Mike's "call to action" regarding those in our parish in need of assistance. It is great to see our parish pull together and "answer the call". To see members of the Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent de Paul Society, CRHP teams, Cub Scout and Girl Scout families, and other parishioners volunteer to make the event happen made me proud to be a member of this parish community. Thanks to your commitment to the event, we exceeded all our goals and had a lot of fun raising money for two very worthwhile causes... more than $33,500...unbelievable!

To all the Shavees: Your commitment to the parish community and helping those in need is inspirational... may your bald heads be examples to those in the parish and community of our parish's commitment to charity!

To the Planning Committee: Chris Cimaglio, Ken "Chef" Prigge, Bob Armstrong, Mitch Kaminski, Ralph Melgosa, John Schneider, Brett Leifer, John Wolak, Adam Smith (our event MC) and Bill Casey (our event photographer). Thank you for your hard work, creativity and planning.

To the Event Volunteers including members of the following parish groups and ministries who helped ensure the event ran smoothly: Knight of Columbus Council #11091, Cub Scout Pack 152, St. Margaret Mary Youth Ministry, St. Vincent DePaul Society, CK Gourmet, and the Girl Scouts.

Also thanks to many of the wives (and kids) for their efforts in making this event a success: Norma O'Neill, Ingrid Prigge, Theresa Gibron, Cindy Cimaglio and all those wives and kids who volunteered to work the event... we couldn't have done it without you!

Lastly, thanks to Fr. Mike for his support of the event (and his ever spontaneous role as auctioneer)...your leadership and enthusiasm always makes this event memorable!
