If you were in a group for the last session, and if that group is continuing, you are already registered. Just be sure that you and your leader are in communication about starting dates and times. If you are not staying in the same group, please register in one of the above-mentioned ways.

If you have not yet participated in WHY CATHOLIC?, now would be the best time to start. The more we know about our Catholic Faith the more equipped we are to share it with those around us. This six-week session will begin our study of Morality and the Catholic Church. We will cover human freedom, conscience, sin, living the beatitudes, mercy and virtues. It will provide a very good base for the Fall 2008 session, which will cover the Ten Commandments. If you have questions, send an email to Deacon Don Miller at deacondjm@yahoo.com.

What is Why Catholic?

WHY CATHOLIC? is a unique adult faith formation program that is solidly based on Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. This adult faith formation process uses small communities to become more familiar with the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC). This third year of the WHY CATHOLIC? Series will look at morality. It offers an opportunity to deepen your knowledge of the Catholic faith, which will enrich your everyday life. It is also a great way to develop new friendships with fellow parishioners. Make WHY CATHOLIC? one of your Lenten promises to the Lord this year.

Do you think you know what we believe? Are you confident in responding to questions about your faith? Do you feel you have already become the person God created you to be? If not, WHY CATHOLIC? is just the program for you.

Catechism of the Catholic Church
by the U.S. Catholic Church

"A sure and certain standard for the teaching of the faith." -- Pope John Paul II

Catechism of the Catholic Church is the first new edition of the catechism in 400 years. Catechism means "instruction," and this text will remain the standard reference for Catholics for many future generations. It is the authoritative summary of Catholic belief regarding the Church creeds, sacraments, commandments, and prayers.
The American Bible for Catholics:
The Catholic Study Bible Second Edition

Several years ago, the New American Bible was issued as the official Roman Catholic text for public reading. Based on the original languages, it included introductions and notes from a Roman Catholic perspective. Edited by ecumenically recognized Roman Catholic scholars, but deliberately reflecting Roman Catholic teaching, the present volume includes the complete text of the New American Bible, along with updated essays on the Bible generally and guides to individual books.

Catholic Catechism for Adults
by the U.S. Catholic Church

The presence of the Catholic Church in the United States reaches back to the founding days of our country through the leadership of Archbishop John Carroll, the first Catholic bishop in the United States. His story like the stories at the start of each chapter in the United States Catholic Catechism for Adults give us a glimpse into the lives of Catholics who lived out their faith throughout our country's history. Each chapter in the Catechism for Adults includes stories, doctrine, reflection, quotations, discussion questions, and prayer to lead the reader to a deepening faith. The Catechism for Adults is an excellent resource for preparation of catechumens in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults and for ongoing catechesis of adults.
Compendium
by the U.S. Catholic Church

Catholics' hunger for the faith continues to grow. Pope Benedict XVI gives the Church the "food" that is seeks in the 598 questions and answers in the Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. This 200-page volume offers a quick synopsis of the essential contents of the faith as promulgated in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Like the 1992 Catechism, the Compendium has a four-part structure, and includes a section on common prayers and Catholic doctrinal formulas.

WHY CATHOLIC? offers a concrete approach to help adults deepen their Catholic faith and connect its teaching with their everyday lives.

We Believe...

Faith is a personal act - the free response of the human person to the initiative of God who reveals himself. But faith is not an isolated act. No one can believe alone, just as no one can live alone. You have not given yourself faith as you have not given yourself life. The believer has received faith from others and should hand it on to others. Our love of neighbor impels us to speak to others about our faith. Each believer is thus a link in a great chain of believers. I cannot believe without being carried by the faith of others, and by my faith I help support others in the faith. CCC - 166
